Welcome back!

Dear Parents,

As the sounds of pool-side laughter still loom in the air, we are busily preparing for the next school year 2010-2011.  We have a strong board, administrative team. faculty, and parents' committee, and everyone is working hard to make sure your children get the best possible education and social experience in this upcoming year.

We will have several changes this year, as we welcome some new faculty members, adjust the schedule, and include some new elements into how we run the school.  Our goal for this upcoming year is to focus on literacy, attendance and energy.

·         Literacy:               We will be building upon the existing reading resources, and initiating several new projects in order to enhance the levels and amounts of reading for our children - in both the younger and older class.

·         Attendance:       However, the only way to take advantage of these wonderful resources is to come to school regularly.  We will be emphasizing positive incentives to keep kids (and parents!) coming to school regularly and on time.

·         Energy:                 Our school is about education, community and FUN!  We are a place that the both children, parents, and members of the community come together to participate in our "Ukrainian-ness."  Much of our calendar, schedule and special events will be organized to encourage participation and emphasize the joy of being at our school.

Certainly, we have many goals, and every teacher is always improving on the existing program, tailored for your children.  We look forward to your input, feedback, and support throughout the year.  With the events going on in Ukraine, and the positive role that our own Ukrainian-Americans have played in her state-building, we must focus on the on-going call for knowledge, participation, and civic action for supporting a free and fair Ukraine.  In both the USA and Ukraine, we must never take liberty for granted!

Finally, please note that this year we will be making certain that parents, students and teachers meet on the first day of school.  You will accompany your children to class, where teachers will make a presentation of learning objectives, student expectations, and will have your child's text books.  If you have fewer parents available than children, the morning will be flexible, and you will be able to visit several classes to pick up materials.  Please see the attached schedule for more information.

Most importantly, please come and support both our wonderful faculty and your fabulous children!

On behalf of the Board,

Renata Harmatiy, Prinicpal
