Is your child interested in Plast?
Plast supports activites for children and teenagers, 6 - 18. Children
in the first grade, or who turn 6 this year, are eligible to join!
The 6 - 11 year old divisions meet every week after Ukrainian School,
at Westland, from 1:00 - 2:15. Activities, run in Ukrainian, include
crafts, singing, story-telling, and games. Special activities have
ranged from a mock election to teach about the Orange Revolution, to
dancing to contemporary Ukrainian music, and hearing its American
counterparts. Field trips have included a treasure hunt at Alla Rogers'
Art Gallery, a tour and tea at the Ukrainian embassy, a corn maze, the
zoo, and an annual overnight June retreat, Sviato Vesny.
The 12 - 18 year old divisions also meet Saturdays after Ukrainian
School. Activities have included overnight camping trips, paintball,
canoeing, ice skating, and skiing, field trips to the theater, museums,
and caves, special presentations. CPR/AED training is arranged
regularly. Some activities are conducted in conjunction with plastuny
from other cities, such as the annual Memorial Day weekend Sviato Yuriya/Sviato
Vesny, and the November Orlykiada (mini-jamboree/competition at
Soyuzivka).
Over the course of the year plastuny earn merit badges (vmilosti and
proby), and every July may attend summer camp at one of the Plast
campgrounds. Teenaged plastuny are also eligible to participate in
specialized camps in bicycling, golf, horseback riding, water sports,
skiing, winter camping, and leadership development camps. Plast also
sponsors international jamborees, family camping, and camps in Ukraine.
